BROTHER IN LAW
I really don’t like my brother-in-law. I don’t know if I can explain it, but I’ll try. See, he tries to be a nice guy. He’s a bankruptcy attorney and is always saying that if I have any bankruptcy questions he’ll answer them. I suppose he thinks that he’s doing me a favor, but it makes me feel like he’s implying that I’m going to go bankrupt soon. I own and run a bookstore. It’s an independent bookstore that has nothing to do with any of the chains like Borders or Barnes and Noble. I’m actually quite proud of it, but he’s always asking me when I’m going to sell the place to Barnes and Noble and cash in. I’m always telling him that it’s not always just about money, but he only laughs and shakes his head at me. Does he even know how condescending he is? I know he makes more money than I do and probably always will, but I do get by and provide for my wife. I’d tell him off, but he’s still my wife’s brother and I do respect that. They’re fairly close so he’s always coming by the house, telling me I should mow the lawn soon and pointing out how the rugs don’t match the color of the paint on the walls or how I should rearrange the furniture. Somehow, I just smile and nod.
